How Much Does a Wedding Cost in Illinois? (2026 Data)
Illinois is Chicago and everything else, and the two price weddings in different ways.
In Chicago, the room is the cheap part. City venues publish rental fees of $5,000 to $12,000 for a Saturday, but most require their own caterer or bar, or set a food and beverage minimum. Galleria Marchetti's $6,000 Saturday becomes roughly $40,000 for 150 guests once its per-person package is added; Sky On Nine sets an $18,500 Saturday minimum.
Downstate, the room is most of it. Springfield's median published venue price is $2,125 and Champaign's $2,500, and many downstate barns let you bring your own caterer and alcohol, which Chicago venues rarely do.
Every figure here comes from a price an Illinois vendor published on their own website, with the sample size attached.
The short answer
An Illinois wedding assembled from the median published price in each category comes to roughly $16,200 for 100 guests, across venue, catering, photography, florals and a DJ. That is a floor, not a forecast.
Realistically, a downstate wedding often lands between $15,000 and $30,000 all in, and a Chicago wedding for 150 commonly runs $40,000 or more.
What each vendor costs in Illinois
These are published rates taken from Illinois vendor websites. The typical range runs from the median vendor's starting price to the median vendor's top published price; the full range is the lowest and highest price any vendor published.
| Category | Typical published range | Full range | Vendors publishing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Venue | $3,500 to $6,750 | $1,500 to $26,000 | 99 of 634 |
| Photographer | $2,700 to $3,740 | $500 to $25,000 | 101 of 241 |
| Florist | $5,000 to $7,750 | $550 to $50,000 | 24 of 350 |
| DJ or band | $1,495 to $2,100 | $595 to $6,000 | 52 of 134 |
| Caterer | $35 to $50 per guest | $20 to $250 | 12 of 256 |
Photographers and DJs are the best-measured categories, with 101 and 52 vendors publishing. The DJ sample is unusually strong, and the typical $1,495 to $2,100 range is a solid figure.
Florals are expensive and the sample is Chicago-driven. A typical florist minimum of $5,000 reflects the Chicago studios, which make up 21 of the 24 published prices.
The caterer sample is thin, at 12, and cakes did not clear our bar: nine bakers published a price, with Chicago's median around $9 a slice.

The regional split
Seven Illinois metros had at least five venues publishing a price.
| Metro | Median published venue package | Sample |
|---|---|---|
| Starved Rock & the Illinois Valley | $6,500 | n=5 |
| Chicago Metro | $4,000 | n=50 |
| Rockford & Northern Illinois | $4,000 | n=11 |
| Carbondale & Southern Illinois | $3,550 | n=7 |
| Metro East (St. Louis, Illinois side) | $3,000 | n=5 |
| Champaign-Urbana & East Central Illinois | $2,500 | n=7 |
| Springfield & Central Illinois | $2,125 | n=8 |
Two things to read into it.
Chicago's median understates a Chicago wedding. The $4,000 is a rental figure on the largest sample in the state. In the city, catering minimums and in-house bars sit on top of it in a way they mostly do not downstate.
The high downstate medians are weekends. The Illinois Valley and Southern Illinois read high because their venues sell two or three-night packages with lodging. Parker Run Vineyards near Starved Rock charges $6,500 for Friday setup through Sunday cleanup; Havisham House in Alto Pass charges $4,500 to $7,500 for three nights.
Our venue guides cover each region: Chicago, Rockford and Galena, Champaign-Urbana, the Metro East, Peoria, Springfield, Southern Illinois and Starved Rock.
Photographers follow a gentler pattern: $2,700 in Chicago (n=52), $2,650 in Rockford, $2,750 in Champaign, $2,025 in Peoria and $1,800 in Springfield.
The venues that publish under $1,500
Our venue table starts at $1,500. Below it are 21 Illinois venues publishing starting prices under $1,500, with a median of $850: small chapels near Chicago that rent from $350, park district rooms, restaurant banquet rooms and short weekday rentals. They suit an elopement or a small ceremony, but they are a different product from a reception venue, so we count them separately.
What a Chicago wedding really costs
Here is what the published Chicago numbers look like for a Saturday wedding of 150:
| Venue | What you pay for 150 guests |
|---|---|
| Galleria Marchetti | $6,000 venue + $190 to $280 a guest + 25% production fee, about $41,000 to $58,000 |
| Sky On Nine | $18,500 food and beverage minimum |
| Providence Vineyard (McHenry County) | $16,500 rental, plus your caterer from its list |
| Greenhouse Loft | $12,000 rental with DJ and photo booth, plus your caterer, BYOB |
| The Ellery (Crystal Lake) | $10,500 rental, bring your own caterer and alcohol |
The gap between those is the catering contract and the bar. A suburban venue that lets you bring both can come in at half the city total.
Putting an Illinois budget together
Here is 100 guests at the median published price in each category.
| Line item | Median-price build |
|---|---|
| Venue | $3,500 |
| Catering (100 x $35) | $3,500 |
| Photography | $2,700 |
| Florals | $5,000 |
| DJ | $1,495 |
| Total | $16,195 |
Then add what nobody publishes: bar service, cake, attire, rings, stationery, hair and makeup, rentals and gratuities. Those reliably add 60 to 100 percent. That is how a $16,000 median build becomes a $30,000 wedding. See our wedding budget breakdown for where the rest goes, and the budget spreadsheet template to work your own numbers.
Where Illinois couples save
Get married in winter. Chicago venues publish winter discounts openly: Room 1520 takes 25% off December to March weekends, Greenhouse Loft drops its Saturday from $12,000 to $8,000, and The Haley Mansion in Joliet charges $3,000 instead of $6,500.
Bring your own alcohol. Greenhouse Loft, The Ellery, Ravenswood Event Center and many downstate barns allow it. Most city venues do not.
Look at a Sunday. Galleria Marchetti's Sunday venue fee is a third of its Saturday, and The Haley Mansion's Sunday guest minimum is 100 instead of 225.
Consider downstate. A Springfield or Champaign barn costs a fraction of a Chicago room, and Starved Rock and Galena are two hours from the city.
A note on timing
May to October is the Illinois wedding season, with September and October the most popular. Winter is the clear value window, especially in Chicago. We cover the tradeoffs in the best months to get married in Illinois.
How we built these numbers
We cataloged Illinois wedding vendors across 11 regions, crawled their websites, and used a language model to pull structured pricing out of the text they publish. Every figure comes from a price a vendor put on their own website, and the venue prices quoted in this guide were checked against the venues' sites when it was written. Nothing is estimated from national surveys.
The known bias is worth stating: vendors who publish prices are not a random sample. Publishing correlates with being mid-market and transparent, and the top of any market rarely publishes. In Illinois that bias is strongest at Chicago's hotels and luxury venues, which quote by proposal. Our medians likely sit below the true center of each category. Read them as a well-sourced floor.
