6 Best Wedding Venues in Southern Illinois and the Shawnee Hills (2026 Guide)
Southern Illinois is wine country and forest, and its wedding venues sell weekends.
Around Carbondale and the Shawnee National Forest, the venues worth seeing are farms, a flower farm and historic houses on the Shawnee Hills Wine Trail, and most of them publish month-by-month prices for a two or three-night weekend with lodging. The region's median published starting price is $3,550 (n=7), but read the rate cards: those numbers often include the cottage, the rehearsal and the whole property.
We cataloged 22 wedding venues across Carbondale, Cobden, Makanda, Marion, Herrin and the Shawnee Hills. Below are the 6 we would point a couple to first, each checked against the venue's own site.
Every venue below is in our Southern Illinois wedding venue directory, where you can filter the full list and see published pricing side by side.

How to shop Southern Illinois venues
Read the month. Havisham House, Stein House and Dragonfly all price by month, and October is the most expensive. January and February are $3,000 cheaper.
Value the lodging. Most packages include a cottage or house for two or three nights, which covers the wedding party.
Book wine-trail weekends early. The Shawnee Hills fill with visitors in fall. Our venue tour questions cover the rest.
Our venue checklist covers the rest of the shopping list, and what a wedding venue costs explains how venue pricing is structured.
