The Illinois Valley, around Ottawa, Utica and Starved Rock State Park, is the closest thing to a destination wedding within two hours of Chicago. Canyons, waterfalls and river bluffs are the draw, along with a historic state park lodge.
Only five venues here publish a starting price, and their median is $6,500 (n=5), high for downstate. That is because the venues that publish tend to sell a full weekend with setup and cleanup days included.

1. Starved Rock Lodge
The lodge the Civilian Conservation Corps built in Starved Rock State Park from 1933, opened in 1939 and on the National Register, of limestone and logs, with a Great Hall around a two-sided stone fireplace said to be the largest in Illinois. It is the only lodging inside the park, with lodge rooms, 16 log cabins and hotel rooms, and it books indoor and outdoor weddings year-round. Trolley rental is an add-on. 2. Parker Run Vineyards
A vineyard in Utica with a lakeside gazebo or chapel for the ceremony and the Big Red Barn for the reception. One price, $6,500, covers Friday setup, a rehearsal dinner in the Brooder House, getting-ready spaces, in-house bartenders, tables and chairs, and Sunday cleanup. You bring a licensed caterer (homemade desserts are allowed) and the officiant; candles must be battery-operated.
3. Centennial Farm on the Ridge
A farm venue near Streator priced by month, the same for 2027 and 2028: $6,500 from December to March, $10,000 from April to November. Bar packages are sold separately.
4. The Country Mansion
A venue in Dwight with two ceremony sites, the East Lawn and Under the Windmill, a permanent bar, a groom's bar and a bridal suite from 7am. Up to 12 hours of exclusive use:
- Saturday: $4,950 in May, June, September and October, $4,200 otherwise
- Friday or Sunday: $3,250 peak, $2,750 off-peak
Tables, linens and a caterer's prep kitchen are included.
5. The Barn at Hornbaker Gardens
A four-season barn hall for 350 at a garden center in Princeton, with botanical gardens, an arboretum and a meadow for the ceremony. It includes a coordinator, Chiavari chairs, glassware, an audio technician and a golf cart for guests who need help getting around, with house and premium bar packages. Acre 17 in Ottawa holds 75 to 300. Ironwood on the Vermilion is a rural event center near Ottawa. And Harms Country Farms is a farm venue in Morris.
How to shop Illinois Valley venues
Book Starved Rock rooms early. The park is a weekend destination for Chicago, and fall color weekends sell out.
Plan the guest drive. Most guests will drive 90 minutes to two hours from Chicago. A Friday welcome event helps.
