How Much Does a Wedding Cost in West Virginia? (2026 Data)

·6 min read

West Virginia is the hardest state we have tried to price, and the reason is worth saying up front: the venues the state is famous for do not publish numbers.

The Greenbrier does not. Neither does Snowshoe, nor most of the Canaan Valley resorts, nor the historic properties around Harpers Ferry. What we can measure is the working middle of the market, which is 20 venues deep. That is enough to give you a real median and not enough to give you a regional breakdown, and we would rather tell you that than pad the table.

Everything below comes from a price a West Virginia vendor published on their own website, with the sample size attached.

The short answer

A West Virginia wedding assembled from the median published price in each category comes to roughly $6,400 across venue and photography, the two categories where we have real data. That is a floor and a partial one.

Realistically, most West Virginia couples land between $18,000 and $30,000 all in. In the Eastern Panhandle, which is commuter distance from Washington and prices accordingly, the top end runs well above that.

What each vendor costs in West Virginia

Category 25th percentile Median 75th percentile Sample
Venue (starting package) $2,875 $3,900 $5,625 n=20
Photographer (starting package) $1,575 $2,500 $3,563 n=20

Those are the only two categories with a usable sample. We found two caterers and two cake bakers publishing a wedding number, and zero florists and zero DJs. That is the thinnest coverage of any state we have measured, and it is a function of size: West Virginia has about 1.8 million people and our whole vendor catalog for the state is smaller than the Baltimore metro's.

The venue median of $3,900 lands mid-table, roughly where you would expect a rural state bordering an expensive one to sit.

The photographer median of $2,500 is the more interesting number. It is higher than several wealthier states publish, which is the Washington commuter belt pulling the average: Green Shade Photography in Charles Town starts at $500 and Iris Magic in Morgantown at $550, but the Eastern Panhandle studios serving Northern Virginia clients price to that market instead.

For the national picture, see what a wedding venue costs and what a wedding photographer costs.

Why there is no regional table on this page

Every other state guide we publish breaks the venue median down by metro. West Virginia does not get one, because not a single West Virginia metro reached ten published venue prices. The Eastern Panhandle came closest at five. Charleston, Beckley and the New River Gorge each had four.

Quoting a median off four venues would produce a number that looks authoritative and is not. So here is what we can say honestly instead, as observations rather than statistics:

  • Beckley and the New River Gorge showed the highest venue prices we saw in the state, on four properties. That is consistent with the New River Gorge becoming a national park in 2020 and the adventure-wedding market that followed.
  • The Eastern Panhandle prices to Washington, not to West Virginia. River Chase in Harpers Ferry runs $6,500 to $8,800.
  • The Greenbrier Valley returned no published venue pricing at all. The state's most famous wedding property is in that valley and quotes by inquiry.

If you want the shape of a specific market, our regional venue guides go property by property with whatever each one publishes.

The venues that publish under $1,500

We found 13 West Virginia venues publishing starting prices under $1,500, with a median of $500 and a floor of $150. The Venue at the Loop in St. Albans runs $150 to $400. Vandalia Crowd House in Huntington runs $350 to $500. Athena Estate and Vineyard near Beckley runs $400 to $1,200. The Gaines Estate near Beckley runs $500 to $1,000.

In a small state these matter proportionally more than the raw count suggests. Thirteen sub-floor venues against twenty above the floor means roughly a third of everything West Virginia publishes is under $1,500.

The top of the market

Wilderness Lodge in Summersville runs $12,500 to $15,500, the highest published package in the state. Tuscan Ridge near Morgantown runs $6,000 to $15,000. Heigh Garden in Charleston is $7,000. River Chase in Harpers Ferry runs $6,500 to $8,800.

The real top of the West Virginia market is higher than any of these and is not on this list, because The Greenbrier does not publish. If you are considering it, expect a different order of magnitude and plan to negotiate rather than shop.

Putting a West Virginia budget together

Line item Median-price build
Venue $3,900
Photography $2,500
Catering (100 x $26, directional) $2,600
Florals no data
Total so far $9,000

This is the least complete build of any state guide we publish, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. Two measured rows, one directional, one missing.

Using national norms for the rest, budget roughly $600 for cake, $1,200 for a DJ, $2,500 for florals, and $2,000 to $4,000 for bar service, which puts the vendor core near $16,000. Then add attire, rings, stationery, transportation, hair and makeup, rentals, and gratuities. See our wedding budget breakdown and the budget spreadsheet template.

What this means if you are planning here

Expect to make phone calls. West Virginia has the lowest rate of published pricing of any state in this project. That is not vendors hiding the ball, it is a small market where most business comes by referral and a website is a brochure rather than a storefront. Budget more time for quotes than you would in a state where you can compare twenty venues online in an evening.

The state divides into three markets, not one. The Eastern Panhandle is economically part of metropolitan Washington. The New River Gorge is a national park destination with visitors flying in. Everything else is a local market priced for local incomes. Which one you are in matters more than any statewide median.

The value is genuinely real. A $3,900 median venue in country this beautiful is a strong offer, and the sub-$1,500 tier is unusually deep. Our venue checklist and venue tour questions are the right tools here, because a West Virginia venue is more likely than most to come as a bare room where what is and is not included has to be established by asking.

A note on timing

West Virginia's best wedding months are September and October, when the mountain foliage peaks and the humidity has broken. Elevation matters enormously: Canaan Valley and Snowshoe run 10 to 15 degrees cooler than Huntington, and mountain weather turns fast in either direction. We cover it in the best months to get married in West Virginia.

How we built these numbers

We cataloged West Virginia wedding vendors across nine metros, crawled their websites, and used a language model to pull structured pricing out of the free text they publish. Every figure comes from a price a vendor put on their own website.

The bias is worth restating and it bites harder here than anywhere else: vendors who publish prices are not a random sample, and in West Virginia the non-publishers include the state's most significant properties. Read the medians as describing the working middle of the market, which is what most couples will actually book, and not as describing the market's full range.

Browse the vendors behind these numbers

Every figure on this page comes from vendors in our West Virginia directory. You can see them market by market, with the same published pricing:

Photography is the one other category with a usable statewide sample, but it is spread too thinly across the state's metros for us to build a browsable list from, which is the same gap the missing regional table above describes.
