1. Palmer House Stable

An 1838 horse and carriage stable in downtown Solon, between the two cities, restored in 2010 and host to more than 350 weddings since, for 40 to 150 guests. Packages run across days rather than hours:

  • Saturday 9am to Sunday 11am: $6,000 ($5,500 in January and February)
  • Thursday to Friday: $5,000
  • The whole weekend, Friday to Sunday: $7,000

You can bring your own food, beer and wine, and the Hay Loft above sleeps eight ($375 a night).

2. Eastbank Venue

A 14,000-square-foot space with exposed brick and floor-to-ceiling windows in downtown Cedar Rapids, with color-changing ceiling lighting, projection screens, two getting-ready lounges and a decor inventory of more than 500 pieces. Saturday $6,200 and Friday $5,200 from April to November, $1,000 less in winter, and Sundays $4,000. The bar is in-house, with one bartender per 75 guests.

3. The Carriage House

A renovated building with arched black-framed windows on 12th Street SE in Cedar Rapids, seating 200 indoors, with an outdoor ceremony area with fire pits and a vault room. Saturday $5,950 from April to November, $4,500 from December to March; Friday or Sunday $4,250 and $3,250. One bartender, with no bar minimum.

4. Ashton Hill Farm

A farm venue in Cedar Rapids seating 300 on solid wood chairs, with a garden ceremony site and a veranda with fire pits. Saturday $7,000, Friday $6,000 (with Thursday setup), Sunday $5,000 from May to November; from December to April, $2,000 less plus a $1,000 bar credit.

5. Little Lights on the Lane

A venue in West Branch, east of Iowa City, for 300, with a maple tree ceremony site, a 100-foot covered porch and two suites. Friday $10,000, Saturday $12,500, with a decor closet and a weekday rehearsal; in winter, the day before is free.

6. Price Creek Event Center

A 12,000-square-foot building in the Amana Colonies, 25 minutes from both cities, for 200, with a second-floor ceremony room, an on-site salon and a bar. Packages by length: $3,000 for eight hours, $4,000 for 12 and $5,250 for 16, or $7,000 for a weekend with a rehearsal dinner in the bar. An elopement with an officiant is $1,000.

7. Walnut Ridge Venue

A 10-acre property near Shellsburg, northwest of Cedar Rapids, with a waterfront ceremony site, 300 cross-back chairs and an in-house bar. From May to October, Saturday $6,000, Friday $5,000 (with Thursday afternoon access), Sunday $4,000; $1,000 less from November to April.

Others worth a look

Old Brick is a historic church landmark in downtown Iowa City. Ushers Ferry Historic Village in Cedar Rapids rents its lodge, gazebo and grounds. And Hotel Millwright in Amana has rooms and an event venue together.
