The Best Months to Get Married in Iowa (2026 Seasonal Guide)
Iowa's wedding season runs from May to October. Summers are warm and humid with strong storms, winters are long and cold, and the best weather of the year arrives with the harvest in September and October.
Iowa venues also publish their seasonal prices more openly than most, so the savings from an off-season date are easy to see.
The quick answer
September and October are the best months to get married in Iowa. Warm days, cool nights, lower humidity and fall color along the river valleys. They are also the most popular, so book a year or more ahead.
June is the classic alternative, but it falls in storm season, so have an indoor plan.
For value, book winter. Ashton Hill Farm in Cedar Rapids drops its Saturday from $7,000 to $5,000 from December to April and adds a $1,000 bar credit. The Carriage House in Cedar Rapids drops from $5,950 to $4,500, and Red Acre Barn near Des Moines takes $1,000 off from December to March.

Season by season
Spring (April and May)
Changeable, with the start of severe weather season. April can be cold; late May is green and pleasant. Several venues treat April as off-season, so an April wedding can be cheaper.
Summer (June to August)
Warm to hot and humid, with thunderstorms and the occasional severe storm, so a climate-controlled barn or a tent matters. Plan around big summer events: RAGBRAI, the bike ride across the state in late July, fills hotels in its overnight towns, and the Iowa State Fair fills Des Moines in August.
Fall (September to November)
The peak. September is warm and stable, October brings color and cool evenings, and November is cold and cheaper. Check football weekends: University of Iowa home games fill Iowa City and Coralville hotels, and Iowa State games do the same in Ames.
Winter (December to March)
Cold, with snow and wind across the open country, and the best value of the year. Indoor venues are built for it, and some venues sweeten winter dates: Little Lights on the Lane in West Branch includes the day before free.
