How Much Does a Wedding Cost in Maryland? (2026 Data)
Maryland is a small state with an unusually wide price spread. A waterfront estate on the Severn River and a fire hall in Garrett County are both Maryland wedding venues, and they are separated by more than a factor of fifty. National averages flatten all of that into one useless number, so we did something different: we cataloged Maryland wedding vendors, pulled the prices they publish on their own websites, and worked out what the market actually looks like.
Below is what we found, with sample sizes attached to every figure so you can judge how much weight it carries.
The short answer
A Maryland wedding assembled entirely from the median published price in each category comes to roughly $16,000 for 100 guests. That is a floor, not a forecast. It assumes you take the middle option everywhere, add no bar package, rent nothing extra, and hire no planner.
Realistically, most couples marrying in the Baltimore and Washington corridor land between $35,000 and $50,000 once the bar, rentals, attire, stationery, and the dozen small line items are in. On the Eastern Shore, in Southern Maryland, and out in Western Maryland, the same wedding runs meaningfully less, and the gap is driven almost entirely by the venue and the catering.
What each vendor costs in Maryland
These are starting packages and published rates from Maryland vendor websites. The n is the number of vendors in each sample.
| Category | 25th percentile | Median | 75th percentile | Sample |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Venue (starting package) | $3,000 | $4,500 | $7,000 | n=58 |
| Photographer (starting package) | $1,500 | $2,720 | $3,800 | n=57 |
| Florist (starting package) | $2,000 | $4,000 | $6,500 | n=21 |
| Cake (per serving) | $5 | $6 | $7 | n=23 |
| DJ (starting package) | $850 | $1,200 | $1,485 | n=19 |
| Caterer (per guest) | $25 | $30 | $40 | n=11 |
Two things are worth saying plainly about this table.
The caterer row is the weakest number we have. Eleven vendors is a thin sample, and it skews hard toward caterers who publish drop-off, buffet, and platter pricing rather than full-service plated dinners. Read $25 to $40 per guest as the floor of the Maryland catering market, not its center. Full-service catering with staff, rentals, and a plated dinner sits well above it, and almost none of those companies publish a number.
The venue row runs high, and that is real. Maryland's median published venue package is $4,500, against $3,000 in Alabama and $4,500 in Virginia. The top of the market is genuinely extreme: our highest published Maryland venue package is $48,500, and the market spans from $1,500 to that.
For the national picture behind these categories, see our guides on what a wedding venue costs and what a wedding photographer costs.
The venues that publish under $1,500
Our venue table starts at $1,500, and that floor is deliberate. Below it there is a second Maryland market that is real but is not the same product.
We found 31 Maryland venues publishing starting prices under $1,500, with a median of $750 and a floor under $100. These are fire halls, lodge banquet rooms, community centers, VFW posts, and small studio spaces rented by the hour or in four-hour blocks. Mount Airy Volunteer Fire Company's reception hall starts at $300. Venues R Us in Waldorf runs $500 to $1,200. Pearl's Event Boutique in Waldorf starts at $400.
These are legitimately good options, particularly in Southern Maryland and Western Maryland where they are thick on the ground. But renting an empty hall for four hours and booking an all-inclusive estate are different transactions, and averaging them together produces a number that describes neither. We count them separately and say so.
Putting a Maryland budget together
Here is what 100 guests looks like if you take the median published price in each category:
| Line item | Median-price build |
|---|---|
| Venue | $4,500 |
| Catering (100 × $30) | $3,000 |
| Photography | $2,720 |
| Florals | $4,000 |
| Cake (100 × $6) | $600 |
| DJ | $1,200 |
| Subtotal | $16,020 |
Now add what that build leaves out: bar service, rentals beyond what the venue includes, attire and alterations, hair and makeup, stationery, officiant, transportation, favors, gratuities, and a planner or day-of coordinator if you want one. Those routinely double the number.
A more honest way to hold it: the median-price build is what you spend before anyone pours a drink. Our wedding budget breakdown walks through the full set of line items, and how many guests you can afford is the single most useful lever on the total.
Maryland's wedding regions
Maryland's price map is not a simple city-versus-country split. It is a waterfront-versus-inland split, and the water is expensive.
Baltimore and its counties
The deepest inventory in the state by a wide margin, and the most variety. Published venue packages here run a median of $4,349 (n=26), with the quartiles at $2,850 and $5,500, and a top end that includes the most expensive published package in Maryland. Downtown mill and warehouse spaces, Mount Vernon mansions, Howard County estates, and a thick ring of Carroll and Harford County barns all sit inside 45 minutes. Baltimore photographers run a median of $3,000 (n=23), the highest in the state. See our Baltimore venue guide.
Annapolis and the Bay
The most expensive corner of Maryland, and the sample says so even though it is small: median published package $8,000 (n=5), with waterfront estates listing $25,750 and all-inclusive bayfront packages running $10,000 to $35,000. You are paying for water frontage within an hour of two major cities. Our Annapolis and Chesapeake Bay guide covers it.
The Maryland suburbs of Washington
The most misleading numbers in the state. Published venue packages here have a median of $2,400 (n=7), the lowest of any Maryland region with a usable sample, and that is not because Montgomery and Prince George's counties are cheap. It is because the venues that publish prices here are event halls and studio spaces, while the estates, country clubs, and mansions are almost entirely inquiry-only. Treat the published number as the rental-hall tier, not the market. Our Maryland DC suburbs guide explains the split.
Frederick County
The best-balanced market in Maryland: median published package $4,850 (n=8), quartiles $3,225 and $8,250. Frederick has a walkable historic downtown with distillery and mill venues, plus real farm and estate inventory in the county around it, and it is close enough to both Baltimore and Washington that guests can drive in. See the Frederick guide.
The Eastern Shore
Maryland's destination market. Too few Shore venues publish prices for us to quote a regional median honestly (n=4), but the inventory is unmistakable: St. Michaels, Easton, Oxford, Chestertown, Rock Hall, and Tilghman Island hold historic inns, waterfront manors, and all-inclusive weekend properties. Published packages we did find range from $4,500 to $19,995. Read the Eastern Shore guide.
Ocean City and the Lower Shore
Beachfront and farm venues within reach of the Atlantic, plus Salisbury's ballroom inventory inland. Sample too thin for a regional median, but individual published packages run from $825 at a renovated Salisbury community hall to $15,950 for an all-inclusive estate in Mardela Springs. Our Ocean City guide covers the coast.
Western Maryland
The best value in the state, and the only place in Maryland with real mountains. Hagerstown, Cumberland, and the Deep Creek Lake area in Garrett County. Published packages here include a Cumberland farm at $1,200 for 100 guests and an all-inclusive Deep Creek property at $30,000, which tells you the range is wide even out here. See the Western Maryland guide.
Southern Maryland
Calvert, Charles, and St. Mary's counties, with a waterfront tier along the Patuxent and the Bay and a deep bench of barns and halls inland. Published packages run from $400 to $8,500. Our Southern Maryland guide has the detail.
Four ways to move the number
Move off Saturday. Friday and Sunday discounts in Maryland are real and often run 20 to 30 percent at venues that publish tiered pricing. Several Frederick and Baltimore venues we cataloged list a Friday rate and a Saturday rate side by side, and the gap is usually four figures.
Move inland. The Chesapeake premium is the single biggest geographic lever in Maryland. The same guest count, the same month, and the same level of service costs substantially less in Frederick County or Washington County than it does on the Severn or the Miles River.
Move off peak. October is the most expensive month in Maryland and the hardest to book. See the best months to get married in Maryland for what each season actually costs and what you trade away.
Cut the guest list before you cut anything else. Catering, bar, rentals, cake, invitations, and favors all scale per head. Trimming 20 guests from a 120-person wedding saves more than any vendor negotiation you will win.
About this data
Every figure here comes from prices Maryland wedding vendors publish on their own websites, extracted and structured from our catalog of Maryland vendors. That means two honest caveats.
It is a self-selected sample. Vendors who publish prices skew toward the transparent, the mid-market, and the newer. Of the 337 wedding-relevant Maryland venues in our catalog, only 58 publish a usable starting package. The luxury tier overwhelmingly says "inquire," so the true market median is almost certainly higher than $4,500, not lower.
Small samples are labeled. Where we only had a handful of vendors, we said n=4 or n=5 and declined to build a regional median on it. A number with n=58 behind it and a number with n=5 behind it are not the same kind of claim, and we would rather show you which is which.
